What is Brass?
Nov 06, 2018

Brass is a buttery yellow alloy composed of zinc and copper that has been produced in many parts of the world for thousands of years. Its uses depending on the percentage of zinc and copper, as well as other metals added to the alloy to produce specific properties, but they include shells for weapons, pipes, weather strips, home decorations, musical instruments and home accessories. The color of the alloy will vary, depending on the zinc content: the lighter the color of the brass, the more zinc will be added and the yellowish stage will be achieved.

Basic brass contains about 67% copper and 33% zinc, making it stronger and more durable than copper, but not as strong as steel.

Brass and bronze, an alloy made of copper and tin, have been manufactured and used for thousands of years, although brass was often made by accident.

Commercial brass is normally lacquered to protect from corrosion, as the metal is corrode easily.
